Akora 2G's gift to Achimota School — a modern three-storey classroom block built to ease overcrowding, expand learning capacity, and ensure that the Achimota experience never comes at the expense of quality education.
Twenty-five years ago, the Achimota School Class of 2000 walked out of the school's iconic gates carrying with us the lessons, friendships, and values that shaped our journey. As is the custom, the year group celebrating its silver jubilee returns with a legacy that reflects gratitude and commitment to Achimota, Mother ours.
Thus was the OAA 2000 Legacy Project born — an ambitious initiative aimed at addressing the school's growing student population and the infrastructure gap that has quietly widened over the past two decades.
When we left the Grey City in December 2000, Achimota had five science classes, five arts classes, one vocational class, and one visual arts class. Today, the school runs 13 science classes, 13 arts classes, three visual arts classes, and two vocational classes. Enrolment has more than doubled — but the classrooms have not kept pace. Some now hold more than 60 students.
We believed the Achimota experience should never come at the expense of quality learning. So we decided to do something about it.
Conceived through extensive engagement with the school's administration and the Achimota School Endowment Trust Fund (ASET Fund), the block was designed to directly address the need for well-equipped, purpose-built learning spaces that support both academic excellence and technological literacy.
Purpose-built, well-ventilated teaching spaces designed to reduce congestion across science, arts, visual arts, and vocational streams.
A dedicated reading and research space to support independent study and foster a culture of lifelong learning.
A modern computer laboratory equipped to build technological literacy and prepare students for a digital world.
Dedicated facilities for teachers — because a well-supported faculty is essential to quality education.
Work has progressed in phases, with each stage bringing the building closer to completion.
Year group members put forward suggestions for the Silver Jubilee Legacy Project.
The year group agreed on an 18-unit classroom block as the Legacy Project.
The official ground-breaking was held in March 2024, one year ahead of the silver jubilee anniversary.
Work on site commenced immediately following the sod-cutting ceremony.

"We are building classrooms, but beyond that, we are cementing spaces where ideas and character can flourish among those who will pass through the Grey City after us."
Ut omnes unum sint
"That all may be one" — Achimota School Motto
Akora 2G embodies this motto in every block laid. We have come together — pooling talents, networks, and resources — to bring this vision to life. Members have contributed in cash and kind, some securing major sponsorships, others giving their widow's mite. Every gift counts, because each one lays another block in building the future.
This Legacy Project is an investment in the future of education at Achimota School. Whether you contribute a classroom, a desk, or a block — every act of generosity strengthens the foundation we are building together.
